Il Capital Umano

Human Capital is a film told from differing plots that begin to come together as the story continues. What seems to begin as an innocent and light-hearted film, with surface-level characters, quickly spirals into a a whirl of chaos. I enjoyed how the movie continued to keep viewers guessing for a while, slowly giving clues of how each character connects to one another. Much of these clues could be missed the first time watching because they are difficult to catch. As the plot thickens, it is apparent that someone will be getting in major legal trouble at the end of the film, however it is difficult to assume who it will be. I enjoyed all of the twists and turns, as well as the final part of the movie which connects the title of the film to the entire story, defining human capital. This film was inspired by a novel of the same title, which I also found very interesting.

  1. My favorite part about this film was the narrative that it was told from. I strongly enjoyed how the movie told stories from different perspectives of different characters that were seemingly unrelated and then in the end they all tied together to form a strong web of connections. They remind me of the American film Crash. I also like how the film continued to reveal different characters’ emotions and surprise the viewer by pointing out new revelations in each act. Finally, The movie was fairly recent so the characters traits and flaws we’re very relatable and realistic as a viewer. This film was my favorite that we have watched this semester.

  2. The film captures many different perspectives, and this is something that develops through the way the film progresses. It is set up in chapter which is narrated by a different character and each perspective is describing the same time period. The way this film is set-up also builds suspense as there is an event and we are compelled to learn about who was involved or not involved in the car-accident. The inability to know the full picture which is a product of only perceiving the film from one perspective builds interest and suspense. The film takes a plot about a rich family and a motor accident and develops a complex and entrancing film about society and critiques how people treat each other the perceptions they have of another.
